West Bengal has recorded an extraordinary 92% voter turnout across 152 seats—one of the highest in its electoral history. To put it in perspective, participation stood at 84% when Mamata Banerjee first swept to power in 2011, before slipping to around 82% in both 2016 and 2021.

What makes this surge noteworthy is the sharp spike in districts like Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling, where voter enthusiasm appears to have reached new highs.

The big question now: what is driving this unprecedented turnout? Is it a sign of brewing anti-incumbency against the current government , or simply a reflection of intensified political mobilisation on all fronts?

While the numbers hint at shifting ground realities, the true picture will only emerge with the results on 4th May. Political observers are also closely watching the upcoming Phase II polling on April 29, which could offer clearer signals on whether the mood leans toward “Paribartan” or a strong comeback.

Adding to the charged atmosphere, Narendra Modi, speaking at a rally in Nadia, declared it was “time for change” in the state.
