🎯 ₹10 Lakh Lottery Scam Foiled in Sikkim: Singtam Resident Alerts Police After Fraud Attempt

Gangtok, May 5: A suspected cyber fraud case linked to a fake lottery scheme has surfaced in Singtam, raising fresh concerns over online scams in the region.

According to police sources, the incident began when the victim received a WhatsApp call from an unidentified person posing as an official from a lottery organization. The caller claimed that the victim had won a cash prize of ₹10 lakh and needed to complete certain formalities to claim the amount.

Believing the claim to be genuine, the victim was reportedly convinced to transfer ₹74,900 under the pretext of GST charges. However, the situation took a turn when the caller demanded additional payments. Sensing foul play, the victim refrained from making further transactions and promptly approached the authorities.

Police officials confirmed that the complaint has been officially registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). The victim has also been advised to visit Singtam Police Station to assist in further investigation.

Authorities have once again cautioned the public to stay vigilant against such deceptive tactics, emphasizing the importance of verifying unsolicited offers before making any financial commitments.
