A Heartfelt Tribute to a Fallen Hero: Agniveer Prayash Gurung of Darjeeling
The hills of Darjeeling weep today as we mourn the tragic loss of one of their brightest sons—Agniveer Prayash Gurung of Lower Lama Gaon, Bijanbari. In a cruel twist of fate, a devastating accident near Junglibaba Mandir Road, Bagdogra, cut short the life of this young soldier, leaving his family, friends, and community in profound grief.
Prayash, a proud recruit of the 6/1 Gorkha Rifles, was serving his nation with dedication when the accident occurred. Despite being rushed to Bengdubi Army Hospital alongside his injured comrades—Nb Sub Tirth Bahadur Thapa and L/Nk Varun Thapa (driver)—his brave heart could fight no longer.
A former student of Vidya Jyoti Academy, Bijanbari, Prayash had recently embarked on his journey as an Agniveer, carrying the dreams of his family and the pride of his homeland. His unwavering spirit and commitment to duty were a testament to the courage that flows in the veins of Gorkha warriors.
Today, as we bid farewell to this valiant soul, our hearts break for his loved ones—his parents, who nurtured his dreams; his friends, who shared his laughter; and his community, which stood proudly behind him. In this moment of unbearable sorrow, we pray that they find the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss.
Rest in peace, braveheart. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten, and your legacy will forever inspire those who walk the path you once tread.
