AI in Governance Is the Need of the Hour: Prime Minister Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Analytics and Digital Governance to make India’s governance system faster, more transparent and more effective.
During a high-level meeting with Secretaries to the Government of India, Prime Minister Modi described “Data as a National Asset” and called for breaking down information silos between ministries and departments. He stressed the need for secure data sharing and the intelligent and responsible use of AI.
The use of AI can help make the monitoring of government schemes, revenue collection, permit and licensing processes, beneficiary identification, and the detection of potential irregularities and errors faster and more systematic.
However, AI is not meant to replace human decision-making. The Prime Minister also emphasised that Human Oversight, Data Security, Privacy, Transparency and Accountability must remain equally important while adopting new technologies.
At a time when technology has already transformed everything from banking and taxation to digital payments, making governance more Data-Driven and AI-enabled is becoming the need of the hour.
AI is not an alternative to government or human governance—it is a powerful tool that can help make government more efficient, transparent and accountable.
