Alcohol Ban on Maha Ashtami, DJ Restrictions During Puja and Immersion: New Durga Puja Guidelines in Bengal
West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has announced that the sale of alcohol will remain completely prohibited across the state on Maha Ashtami during this year’s Durga Puja celebrations.
He said all liquor shops and bars will remain closed on the day when devotees offer floral tributes to Goddess Durga.
The announcement comes amid several measures and guidelines issued by the West Bengal government ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja festivities. These include a grant of ₹1 lakh for Puja committees, free electricity, and the waiver of fees for essential fire safety licences.
Adhikari also urged Puja committees to ensure that their idols, pandals and themes do not misrepresent religious or cultural traditions or hurt religious sentiments.
He appealed to organisers to maintain the sanctity of the festival and ensure that immersion processions are conducted in a disciplined and orderly manner.
