Balen Shah Becomes Nepal’s Prime Minister in Historic Constitutional Move

Kathmandu, March 27: President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed Balendra Shah as the new Prime Minister of Nepal, marking a significant political milestone under the country’s constitutional framework.

Shah, who leads the parliamentary party of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, secured the position after his party achieved a clear majority in the House of Representatives. His appointment has been made in accordance with Article 76(1) of the Constitution of Nepal (2015), which mandates that the leader of the majority party be invited to form the government.

This development stands out as a notable moment in Nepal’s political history, as it is the first instance of a Prime Minister being appointed under this specific constitutional provision since the constitution came into effect.

With the formal appointment complete, Shah is now set to constitute his Council of Ministers and begin leading the government. His tenure is expected to focus on governance, accountability, and delivering on public expectations following a decisive electoral mandate.
