Bengal Government Removes Mamata-Appointed Retired Officials Ahead of Power Transition
Kolkata, May 7 : As political change appears imminent in West Bengal, retired bureaucrats appointed during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure have reportedly been asked to stay away from government offices until the formation of the new administration.
As per media reports, according to senior administrative sources, retired officers who continued serving in advisory and departmental roles under the state government were instructed not to report to work starting today. The move comes amid preparations for the expected formation of a new BJP-led government in the state.
Sources said the directive was communicated from Lok Bhavan through Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala to departmental secretaries across various government divisions. Officials were reportedly informed verbally within their departments to ensure immediate compliance.
The temporary restriction is expected to remain in place until the new government officially assumes charge.
Several retired officials serving as consultants and advisors in different state departments have also reportedly submitted their resignations and vacated government-provided accommodations in recent days.
Meanwhile, the state administration has intensified monitoring of official records and sensitive documents. On Tuesday, the Chief Secretary reportedly instructed all departments to maintain strict vigilance over important files and ensure that no official documents are removed from office premises under any circumstances.
Financial advisors attached to different departments have additionally been directed to assist in securing records and preparing detailed inventories of important files.
The developments come at a time of heightened political activity in Bengal following major electoral shifts and increasing discussions surrounding administrative restructuring within the state government.
