CM Suvendu Adhikari Announces Proposal for AIIMS in Raiganj, Full-Fledged Cancer Hospitals in Jalpaiguri and Siliguri
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday announced plans to propose the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raiganj and full-fledged cancer hospitals in Jalpaiguri and Siliguri to strengthen healthcare facilities across North Bengal.
The announcements were made following an administrative review meeting in Raiganj, North Dinajpur district. This was the Chief Minister’s first official visit to the district since assuming office.
Addressing the meeting, Adhikari said the state government had decided to send a proposal to the Central Government for setting up the state’s second AIIMS at Dighinagar in Raiganj. The proposed institution is expected to improve access to advanced medical treatment and specialised healthcare for people in North Bengal.
In another major healthcare announcement, the Chief Minister said that full-fledged cancer hospitals would be established in Jalpaiguri and Siliguri. The initiative aims to strengthen cancer treatment facilities in the region and reduce the need for patients to travel to distant cities for specialised care.
Following the administrative review meeting, Adhikari addressed a public service programme at Teesta Maidan in the Karnajora area of Raiganj, where he outlined the government’s initiatives for the region.
The proposed AIIMS and cancer hospitals could mark a significant step towards expanding advanced healthcare infrastructure in North Bengal. However, the AIIMS proposal is yet to be submitted to the Central Government, and further details regarding the projects are awaited.
