Incessant downpours in Himachal Pradesh have caused the Beas River to overflow, resulting in widespread flooding that has devastated essential transportation links. The Kullu-Manali-Leh National Highway (NH-3) has been particularly hard-hit, with numerous sections and bridges either washed away or heavily damaged. This has completely cut off access to Manali and other crucial areas.
The rising floodwaters have swept away homes, eateries, and small hotels in vulnerable villages such as Bahang, forcing residents to evacuate. While there have been no reported casualties, the destruction of property has severely impacted the livelihoods of many.
District officials are coordinating emergency rescue and relief operations and have advised both tourists and residents to stay away from the affected regions. With meteorologists forecasting heavy rain to persist until early September, recovery and rebuilding efforts are expected to face significant challenges.
