Free Wi-Fi Can Be a Costly Mistake
Free Wi-Fi Can Be a Costly Mistake
Public Wi-Fi at airports, railway stations, cafes, hotels, and other public places may seem convenient, but cybercriminals often create fake Wi-Fi networks that closely resemble legitimate ones. Once connected, unsuspecting users may be redirected to fraudulent login pages or unknowingly share sensitive information such as OTPs, passwords, banking credentials, and personal data.
Stay alert and protect yourself from cyber fraud :-
* Verify the Wi-Fi network name with the staff before connecting.
* Avoid internet banking, UPI transactions, or online shopping while using public Wi-Fi.
* Never share OTPs, passwords, or personal information on unknown login pages.
* Disable auto-connect for public Wi-Fi networks on your device.
* If in doubt, use your mobile data instead of public Wi-Fi.
* Report any suspicious Wi-Fi networks immediately.
If you become a victim of cyber fraud, report it immediately by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline: 1930 or visiting www.cybercrime.gov.in.
Stay alert. Stay cyber safe. Protect your personal and financial information.
