JP Nadda, Assam CM Visit Flood-Hit Areas on Tractor Amid Severe Flooding
Amid the devastating floods in Assam, Union Health Minister and former BJP national president JP Nadda, along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, visited flood-affected areas of Sivasagar district on a tractor to assess the situation and meet residents.
The flood situation in Assam remains critical, with two more deaths reported from Sivasagar and Golaghat districts, taking the total number of flood-related fatalities in the state this year to 89. According to the latest government bulletin, nearly 1.28 lakh people across seven districts have been affected by the floods.
Several rivers continue to remain swollen, while floodwaters have submerged homes, damaged roads and destroyed crops. Although water levels have started to recede in parts of Upper Assam, mud and stagnant water continue to affect residential areas and roads.
Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat are among the worst-affected districts in Upper Assam. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported that the latest two flood-related deaths occurred in Sivasagar, one of the worst-hit districts.
During his visit, Nadda toured the flood-affected areas of Santak and Nepali Khuti in Sivasagar along with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He met affected families and heard their concerns regarding the damage to homes, agricultural land, livestock and public infrastructure.
Nadda also reviewed the relief and rehabilitation measures being carried out in the affected villages. He took stock of the availability of essential relief materials and the assistance being provided to displaced families.
