Kolkata's iconic 'folding' bridge to get 117.54 cr upgrade : Reports

Kolkata's iconic Bascule Bridge will undergo an upgradation at cost of ₹117.54 crore.

Built in 1966 by an Austrian firm, it's a double-leaf rolling bridge which swings upwards to let ships pass and then locks back down.

The upgradation project, launched by Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, will overhaul bridge's electro-mechanical systems and reinforce massive steel leaves to handle heavy-duty traffic.
