Landslide Alert Issued for Sikkim Amid Heavy Rainfall
The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) have issued an urgent landslide advisory for residents, following continuous heavy rainfall across the state. The advisory urges extreme caution and provides key safety guidelines to mitigate risks.
Residents are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel through regions known to be susceptible to landslides. For those living in such areas, officials recommend heightened vigilance. The advisory specifically warns to watch for tell-tale signs of potential landslides, including cracks in the ground, unusual water flow, or shifting soil.
Additionally, the SSDMA & DDMA have stressed the importance of staying away from structures considered vulnerable to collapse. The public is urged to follow all traffic and weather advisories from official sources, including the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) Special Weather Bulletins.
For real-time updates and alerts, residents can download the Sachet App, the National Disaster Alert Portal. In case of an emergency, the advisory reminds people to contact local disaster management teams immediately.
