Missing 82-Year-Old Man Found Dead After Drone-Assisted Search Near Rongli Zero
Rhenock, Nov 30: An 82-year-old man who was reported missing from Lower Tarpin, Rhenock, has been found deceased in a steep cliff area near Rongli Zero, under the jurisdiction of Rhenock Police Station.
According to official reports, a missing diary was lodged on November 29 at around 3:15 PM by Jog Bdr. Chettri, stating that his father, Indra Bdr. Chettri, had been missing from their residence since 6:00 PM on November 28, 2025. Immediately after the report, the police, supported by local residents, launched a search operation covering surrounding areas, forest trails, and walking routes.
During the search, investigators suspected that the elderly man may have accidentally fallen from a cliff near Rongli Zero. However, initial ground search efforts were hindered due to steep slopes and dangerous terrain.
On November 30, authorities deployed a drone for aerial scanning, which successfully identified a body approximately 70 meters below the roadside level. A joint rescue team comprising police personnel and local volunteers reached the site and recovered the deceased. The body was later identified by family members.
Following the recovery, Rhenock Police Station registered PS UI Case, FIR No. 12/2025, under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The BDO of Rhenock conducted the inquest at the site as mandated by law.
The body has been sent to Singtam District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police have stated that no evidence of foul play has been detected at this stage, and the case remains under investigation. Authorities also extended appreciation to Joseph Lepcha, whose drone support proved essential in locating the body in an otherwise inaccessible area.
