Odd-Even Restriction Withdrawn Across Sikkim, Remains in Force Within Gangtok
Gangtok, May 31: The Government of Sikkim has withdrawn the odd-even vehicle movement restriction for private vehicles across all districts of the state, except Gangtok town, with immediate effect.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department on Saturday, the decision was taken after a review of the availability of Motor Spirit (petrol) and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) in the state. The Food and Civil Supplies Department informed the government that adequate buffer stock has now been created to meet prevailing fuel requirements.
The notification states that the odd-even restriction imposed on private vehicles throughout the state under the earlier order dated May 14, 2026, will no longer apply outside Gangtok.
However, the existing odd-even traffic regulation within Gangtok town, introduced through a Transport Department notification issued on October 24, 2024, will continue to remain in force.
The government has also clarified that restrictions imposed on government vehicles under the May 14 notification will continue until further orders.
Additionally, Notification No. 52/Home/2026 dated May 20, 2026, has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
The latest order was issued by Chief Secretary R. Telang, IAS, on behalf of the Governor of Sikkim.
