Rajnath Singh Inaugurates BrahMos Aerospace Facility in Uttar Pradesh, Marking Major Step in Defence Self-Reliance
Lucknow, May 12 – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday virtually inaugurated a state-of-the-art BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. The Rs 300 crore unit is a significant milestone in India’s pursuit of self-sufficiency in defence manufacturing under the #AtmanirbharBharat initiative.
Established as a joint venture between India and Russia, the BrahMos facility is designed to handle the production, integration, and rigorous testing of the world-renowned supersonic cruise missile. In addition to missile assembly, the complex also includes advanced infrastructure for producing aerospace-grade materials and components.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the launch of this high-tech centre reinforces India’s strategic focus on indigenous defence capabilities and is expected to significantly boost the regional industrial ecosystem. The facility will play a pivotal role in manufacturing the BrahMos missile, one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles globally, capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 2.8 and ranges between 290 and 400 kilometers.
Describing the inauguration as a landmark development, the Ministry noted on X that the project marks a decisive leap forward in bolstering both national security and local employment through innovation-led industrial growth.
