Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled Passes Away After Two Decades in Coma

Riyadh, July 19 – Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, known as the "Sleeping Prince," has died at the age of 36 after spending 20 years in a coma. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, confirmed the news in a post on social media platform X.

Prince Alwaleed had been in a vegetative state since a tragic car accident in 2005 while he was studying at a military academy in London. During emergency surgery following the crash, he suffered a brain hemorrhage that left him unresponsive. Despite extensive medical care, including consultations with international specialists, he never regained consciousness.

His family, particularly his father, held onto hope for his recovery over the years. Prince Khaled frequently shared emotional updates on social media, especially during religious occasions such as Ramadan and Eid, praying for his son’s healing. As recently as last month, during Eid al-Adha, Prince Khaled visited his son alongside other family members, publicly pleading for his recovery.

Prince Alwaleed had been under long-term care at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained on life support. Though his family occasionally observed subtle movements that sparked optimism, his condition showed no significant improvement.

His funeral prayers will be held on Sunday, July 20.

May his soul rest in peace
