Sevoke Road Hit-and-Run Case: Court Denies Bail to Debangshu Pal Chowdhury, Orders 14 Days’ Judicial Custody

In a significant development in the Sevoke Road hit-and-run case, a court in Siliguri has rejected the bail application of the accused, Debangshu Pal Chowdhury. The court has remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.

Earlier today, Siliguri Police produced the accused before the jurisdictional magistrate. He was represented by his legal counsel during the proceedings. Members of the aggrieved party were also present in court, accompanied by their advocates.

In a concerning turn of events, it has been alleged that two unidentified individuals visited the residence of the late Shankar Chhetri. The deceased’s family has claimed that the men introduced themselves as media personnel and allegedly issued threats to the victim’s sister, warning her against appearing in court on Saturday. According to the complaint, she was cautioned that adverse consequences could follow if the family attended the court proceedings. In that case FIR has been lodged at Kharibari police station, aggrieved party advocate told media.

These allegations, if substantiated, raise serious concerns regarding possible intimidation of the bereaved family. Authorities are expected to examine the matter in accordance with the law.
