Siliguri Police Foil Suspected ATM Fraud Operation
Siliguri Police have foiled an alleged ATM fraud operation following information about the suspicious movement of a person near an SBI ATM in Kadamtala, under Matigara Police Station.
Acting on the information, police personnel from the NBMC&H Outpost detained 43-year-old Jaganath Ghorami, a resident of Baruipur in South 24 Parganas. During a search, several ATM cards and a keypad mobile phone were reportedly recovered from his possession.
During questioning, Ghorami allegedly disclosed that he had arrived from Kolkata along with associates, who are suspected to be part of an inter-district criminal gang. The group allegedly travelled in a Scorpio displaying a fake registration number and had been staying at a hotel in Fulbari, reportedly with the intention of carrying out an ATM fraud operation.
Police have launched a further investigation to identify the other members of the alleged gang and determine the full extent of their activities.
The Siliguri Police Commissionerate said it remains committed to preventing financial fraud and taking action against organised criminal networks.
