Swift Police Raid in Singtam Bazar: Shop Owner Held with Suspected Contraband and ₹71,090 Cash
Singtam,b20 Feb : In a decisive crackdown on alleged drug-related activities, Singtam Police carried out a swift operation in Singtam Bazar on Thursday afternoon following credible intelligence inputs.
According to official sources, the information was received around 1:50 PM by SHO Singtam, PI Kishor Kumar Chettri. The tip-off suggested that a 38-year-old local resident, identified as Mehfooj Ansari of Jubilee Line and proprietor of Shaira Traditional Shop near IDBI Bank, was allegedly stocking and selling illegal substances from his establishment for personal gain.
Acting without delay, PI Mamta Rai, accompanied by a police team, reached the location and conducted a detailed search of the shop premises. The operation was carried out in the presence of independent witnesses and in strict adherence to legal procedures.
During the search, officers reportedly recovered a significant quantity of suspected contraband substances. Additionally, cash amounting to ₹71,090 was seized from the premises.
Police officials also acknowledged the crucial role played by LNK Bimal Chettri of Singtam Police Station, whose vigilance and active involvement contributed substantially to the success of the raid.
Following the operation, a formal case has been registered at Singtam Police Station under relevant provisions of the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA). Authorities confirmed that further investigation is currently underway.
