Tamil Nadu Assembly Supports CM Vijay’s Resolution Making ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ Mandatory at Official Events
Chennai, August 10: The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously supported a resolution put forth by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. This resolution requires the singing of “Tamil Thai Vazhthu” at the start of official events throughout the state.
The resolution mandates that the Tamil state anthem be sung first at events organized by government departments, educational institutions, universities, public sector undertakings, and other public organizations in Tamil Nadu.
While introducing the resolution in the Assembly, Chief Minister Vijay emphasized the significance of the Tamil language and cultural identity. The proposal received backing from all parties, including the DMK and AIADMK, leading to its unanimous approval by the House.
This decision establishes a clear protocol for the singing of Tamil Thai Vazhthu at official events. It aims to strengthen respect for the Tamil language, heritage, and cultural identity within government and public institutions.
This decision also follows earlier political discussions on the order in which Tamil Thai Vazhthu and the National Anthem were played at official events. In June, Vijay addressed criticisms in the Assembly by referencing past state events that had used different sequences.
With this latest resolution gaining unanimous support, Tamil Thai Vazhthu will formally be performed at the start of official events as outlined by the Assembly decision.
