TMC Leader’s Son Arrested for Allegedly Entering CM’s Helipad with ‘ARMY’ Marked Vehicle

Siliguri: Tension prevailed in Fulbari after a man allegedly entered a Chief Minister’s helipad with a four-wheeler bearing the word ‘ARMY’, despite tight security arrangements. The accused, identified as Bapi Roy, son of Dilip Roy, president of the Dabgram-Fulbari Block Trinamool Congress, was arrested by personnel of the New Jalpaiguri Police Station. He was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday.

According to reports, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari was on a North Bengal visit on Monday. Elaborate security arrangements had been put in place at the helipad in Fulbari. It is alleged that Bapi Roy entered the helipad premises in a four-wheeler displaying ‘ARMY’ on it, passing through the security cordon.

Meanwhile, BJP workers and supporters had gathered outside the helipad to welcome the Chief Minister. Some of them reportedly spotted Bapi Roy inside the helipad premises, following which a tense situation developed.

BJP workers questioned how the son of a Trinamool Congress leader was allegedly allowed to enter such a heavily secured area with a vehicle. An argument subsequently broke out between BJP supporters and the police. As the situation became tense, a large police contingent reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Following a complaint in connection with the incident, NJP Police arrested Bapi Roy on Monday night. He was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday.

The incident has raised questions over how a vehicle bearing ‘ARMY’ markings was allegedly allowed to enter a sensitive and heavily secured area such as the Chief Minister’s helipad. The matter has also triggered political discussions in the region.
