Wildlife Smuggling Bid Foiled Near Indo-Bhutan Border
In a joint operation by Sukna Range, Darjeeling Wildlife Division, WCCB Border Unit Siliguri, and RRT Range Jaldapara, officials intercepted a motorcycle at South Sathali under Kalchini Police Station. Authorities recovered around 900 grams of elephant ivory and a sambar antler.
Two individuals from Alipurduar were arrested and later remanded to judicial custody by the Alipurduar Court. Preliminary investigation suggests the wildlife items were brought from Assam and were being transported towards Jaigaon near the Indo-Bhutan border for illegal sale. Further investigation is underway.
