Approved In 24 Hours: CM Tamang Thanks WB CM Adhikari For Clearing Suswastha Bhawan Sikkim In Siliguri
Gangtok, July 4: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) has expressed heartfelt gratitude to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for approving the long-pending proposal for the construction of Suswastha Bhawan Sikkim at the SNT Complex in Siliguri — a clearance that came within just 24 hours of the meeting between the two leaders.
In a public statement, CM Tamang said, "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Suvendu Adhikari ji for his prompt approval of the pending proposal for the construction of Suswastha Bhawan Sikkim at the SNT Complex, Siliguri, within just 24 hours of our meeting."
The two Chief Ministers had met at Nabanna in Kolkata on Thursday, July 2, where they discussed connectivity, healthcare, and public welfare, along with a series of long-pending inter-state issues.
The Chief Minister noted that the proposal had remained stuck for a long time before the change of government in West Bengal. "This important proposal had remained unnecessarily stalled under the previous Trinamool Congress Government for a considerable period," he stated.
Suswastha Bhawan Sikkim will provide accommodation and essential support to patients from Sikkim and their attendants who travel to Siliguri for medical treatment. For thousands of Sikkimese families, Siliguri remains the nearest major medical hub, and the absence of affordable, reliable accommodation during prolonged treatment has long been a burden. "This approval will greatly benefit countless patients from Sikkim who travel to Siliguri for medical treatment by providing them with much-needed accommodation and support during difficult times," the Chief Minister said.
CM Tamang described the swift decision as a reflection of the new West Bengal government's cooperative approach towards Sikkim. "This swift and positive decision reflects the commitment of the present Government of West Bengal and Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari ji to strengthen cooperation and work hand in hand with the Government of Sikkim for the welfare and mutual benefit of the people of both our states. I sincerely thank him for his support, goodwill, and statesmanlike leadership," he stated.
The approval was among the key outcomes of the July 2 meeting, at which the West Bengal government also agreed to double the countersignature permit quota for Sikkim-registered taxis operating in West Bengal from 3,000 to 6,000. The developments mark the first major bilateral engagement between the two governments since the new administration assumed office in West Bengal in May.
