Asansol Durga Temple Reopens After 15 Years , After BJP’s Victory in West Bengal
Kolkata, May 6 : A Durga temple in Asansol has reopened for devotees after remaining closed for 15 years due to local tensions and administrative restrictions.
The temple, which was earlier accessible only during major festivals like Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja, has now been opened throughout the year following the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
The reopening came after the BJP secured all Assembly seats in Paschim Bardhaman district, creating a wave of celebration among supporters and locals. Soon after the gates were opened, a large number of devotees gathered at the temple, offering prayers and expressing emotional joy.
Local leaders had earlier promised that the temple would be reopened if their party came to power. After the election results, that promise was fulfilled, making the event symbolic not only from a religious perspective but also as a sign of political change in the region.
For many residents, the reopening marks the end of years of restricted access and is being seen as a significant cultural and social moment.
