Bengaluru Café Adds ‘Gas Crisis Charge’ to Lemonade Bill — Internet Reacts
A café in Bengaluru has gone viral after a customer shared a bill that included an unusual “Gas Crisis Charge.” The surcharge appeared even on a simple order of mint lemonade, leaving many social media users confused and amused.
According to the viral bill, two glasses of mint lemonade priced at ₹179 each also carried a 5% extra charge labelled as “Gas Crisis Charge.” The receipt quickly spread across the internet, sparking debates and humorous reactions online.
The café owner later clarified that the surcharge was introduced due to the ongoing shortage of commercial LPG cylinders. With cooking gas becoming harder to obtain and prices rising sharply in the grey market, several restaurants and cafés are reportedly struggling to keep their kitchens running.
However, many netizens questioned why a cold drink like lemonade, which usually requires no cooking gas, should include a gas-related surcharge. Some joked whether the lemon had been “heated before serving.”
The issue highlights a broader problem in Bengaluru’s hospitality sector, where businesses are facing difficulties due to the LPG supply crunch, forcing some establishments to adjust prices or reduce menu items.
What do you think — Is this justified or just an excuse to increase prices?
