Commercial LPG Prices Surge Again Amid Middle East Crisis, Businesses Feel the Heat
New Delhi, April 1: Nation has witnessed yet another sharp increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices, adding fresh pressure on businesses already grappling with rising operational costs. The latest hike of around ₹195.50 in 19-kg commercial cylinders comes as global energy markets remain unstable due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The price revision, which came into effect recently, directly impacts restaurants, hotels, and small food vendors who rely heavily on LPG for daily operations. With costs climbing steadily over the past few months, industry players say sustaining margins is becoming increasingly difficult.
Reports indicate that this is not an isolated spike. In fact, commercial LPG prices have been rising continuously for several months, with an overall increase of nearly ₹500 within just four months. This consistent upward trend is largely driven by disruptions in global fuel supply chains, especially as geopolitical tensions affect key energy routes.
India depends heavily on imports to meet its LPG demand, with a significant portion sourced from the Gulf region. Any instability in this region—particularly around critical shipping lanes like the Strait of Hormuz—has a direct impact on pricing and availability in the country.
While commercial cylinder prices continue to rise, domestic LPG rates have remained relatively stable for now, offering limited relief to households. However, experts warn that if the global situation worsens, further revisions cannot be ruled out.
The impact of rising LPG costs is already visible on the ground. From street food stalls to large-scale eateries, many businesses are either increasing menu prices or struggling to absorb the additional expenses. In several cities, vendors have even reported supply delays and inflated black-market rates, worsening the situation for small operators.
As uncertainty looms over global fuel markets, all eyes are now on future price revisions and government measures that could help cushion the blow for businesses dependent on commercial LPG.
