Delhi Pollution : WFH Option Now Part of Stage 3 Rules Under Revised GRAP

New Delhi, Nov 22 : Several measures from Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) have now been shifted to Stage 3 as authorities tighten pollution control protocols amid worsening air quality in Delhi-NCR. The update follows a recent Supreme Court directive urging proactive steps to prevent further air quality deterioration.

Under the revised structure, rules meant for situations where the Air Quality Index (AQI) crosses 450 will now apply when AQI hits between 401 and 450 (Stage 3). Similarly, stage-wise measures have been shifted downward, meaning Stage 3 actions will apply at Stage 2, and Stage 2 measures will apply at Stage 1.

The change comes after the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reviewed the situation and enforced modifications based on the Supreme Court’s recommendation to act early rather than wait for pollution to worsen further.

Key Stage 4 Rules Now Active Under Stage 3:

State governments and the Delhi administration may allow public, private, and municipal offices to operate at 50 percent capacity, with the remaining staff working from home.

The Central government may also consider work-from-home arrangements for its offices.

As of 1:30 pm today, Delhi’s AQI stood at 367, which falls under the ‘very poor’ category. Although slightly better than Friday’s reading of 392, the air quality remains in the alarming zone for more than a week.

Forecasts from the Ministry of Earth Sciences warn that the air quality may slip back into the ‘severe’ category and is expected to remain between ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ for at least the next six days.
