FIFA President Gianni Infantino applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s passion for sports after sharing a heartwarming photo of him playing football with children in Gangtok. Posting the moment on social media, Infantino wrote, “Football truly unites the world.”
Football holds a special place in Northeast India, often rivaling cricket in popularity across states like Sikkim, Mizoram, Manipur, and Meghalaya.
This is not the first time Infantino has acknowledged PM Modi. The two leaders have met on several international platforms. During the 2018 G20 Summit in Argentina, Infantino had gifted Modi a personalised football jersey.
Recently, PM Modi described his time playing football with young players in Gangtok as a “lovely morning” and an “energising session.”
