GOAT Tour Goes Sour: Kolkata Police Arrest Lionel Messi Event Organizer After Stadium Chaos and Fan Uproar
Kolkata, Dec 13 : The main organizer behind the "GOAT India Tour" event featuring football legend Lionel Messi, Satadru Dutta, has been apprehended by the Kolkata Police following an incident of massive public disorder at the Salt Lake Stadium.
The arrest comes after thousands of fans, who had purchased tickets, were left enraged when the celebrated Argentine star departed the venue earlier than scheduled on December 13, 2025. The ensuing chaos saw disappointed spectators demanding immediate refunds for the event, which was widely criticized for severe mismanagement.
Dutta was detained by the Kolkata Police while he was en route to Hyderabad, the next scheduled stop on the tour. The development was officially confirmed by the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal, Rajeev Kumar.
During a press conference, ADG Law and Order, Javed Shamim, verified the detention and confirmed that the police are actively working to ensure fan compensation. "Satadru Dutta, the main organiser of the programme, was already detained by police. Money will be refunded, police ensure that," Shamim stated, adding that an investigation into the matter is underway.
DGP Rajeev Kumar further disclosed that the organizer has provided a written guarantee to refund the cost of tickets sold to all disappointed attendees. Kumar was quoted saying, "We have detained the main organiser and ensured that this mismanagement does not go unpunished and that the fans are adequately compensated."
In a related development, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also confirmed the arrest and condemned the event's poor organization. The Chief Minister ordered a high-level enquiry committee to examine all aspects of the fiasco, including the extent of the mismanagement.
The police have also registered a suo motu case and are scrutinizing the circumstances that led to the event’s disarray, which included allegations that VIPs and dignitaries obstructed the view of the superstar, contributing to the public's frustration.
