India Strikes Back with Operation Sindoor, Neutralizes Pakistan's Air Defence in Lahore
India has intensified its military stance against Pakistan by launching Operation Sindoor, a strategic counter-offensive aimed at dismantling Pakistan’s air defense infrastructure. Among the key targets neutralized was a major air defense installation located in Lahore. The action comes in response to Pakistan’s reported drone and missile attempts on Indian military positions spread across the northern and western regions of the country.
The operation was triggered by the April 22 terror incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 tourists — mostly from the Hindu community — lost their lives in a suspected terrorist assault. The Indian government holds Pakistan-based terror outfits responsible, an allegation vehemently denied by Islamabad.
During the night of May 7–8, Pakistan is said to have launched drone and missile strikes aimed at Indian military bases in Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, and several other locations. However, India's air defense network, including its Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and other integrated platforms, successfully intercepted the incoming threats. Wreckage retrieved from various sites confirmed the attempted strike.
In retaliation, India initiated Operation Sindoor, employing advanced military assets including Israeli-made Harop drones and the Russian-origin S-400 air defense system. The mission successfully targeted and dismantled radar systems and air defense structures within Pakistan, with a key success being the disabling of the air defense installation in Lahore.
The international community, particularly the United States and the European Union, has voiced concern over the rising military tensions. While Washington, under President Donald Trump, has offered to mediate and urged both nations to de-escalate, military build-up continues along the Line of Control (LoC), raising fears of broader conflict.
Operation Sindoor represents a critical turning point in Indo-Pak relations, bringing to the fore the persistent volatility over Kashmir. As the situation evolves, global powers are watching with concern, hoping for diplomatic solutions to prevent an all-out confrontation.
