Indian Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla Launches to Space on Axiom-4 Mission
Florida, June 25 – Making history once again for India, astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla blasted off to the International Space Station (ISS) today as part of NASA’s Axiom-4 mission. He becomes the second Indian to venture into space after Rakesh Sharma’s landmark journey in 1984.
The launch took place at 12:01 PM IST from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida after facing six previous delays due to unfavorable weather and technical issues.
Shukla is accompanied by three international astronauts aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, which is scheduled to dock with the ISS on June 26. The mission represents a significant step forward for private space travel and underlines India’s rising role in the global space arena.
Shukla said, "This is not just the beginning of my journey to the International Space Station — this is the beginning of India’s human spaceflight programme, and I want all of you to be a part of this journey."
"Jai Hind, Jai Bharat."
