Mortal Remains of Air India Crew Member Nganthoi Sharma Brought Home to Manipur

Imphal, June 22 – The mortal remains of 23-year-old Nganthoi Sharma Kongbrailatpam, a cabin crew member from Manipur who lost her life in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, were brought back to her home state on Sunday.

Her identity was confirmed through DNA testing, which matched her with her father, Kongbrailatpam Nandesh Kumar Sharma. Nganthoi was a crew member on the London-bound Air India Flight AI that crashed with 242 people on board. Only one person survived the accident.

Nganthoi was one of two crew members from Manipur on the flight. The remains of the other crew member, Lamnunthem Singson, had been returned earlier to his hometown in Kangpokpi.

Her family accompanied her body back to Imphal, where officials at the Imphal International Airport held a respectful and somber reception in her honour. While the confirmation of her death brought deep sorrow, it also gave the family a sense of closure as they now prepare for her final rites.
