Navratri 2026 Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta Symbolises Courage, Grace and Divine Protection

Navratri Day 3 is dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta, the third manifestation of Goddess Durga, who embodies courage, grace, peace and divine protection. Worshipped for her fearless nature and compassionate spirit, Maa Chandraghanta represents the triumph of good over evil and the strength to overcome life's challenges.

Her name is derived from two Sanskrit words, "Chandra," meaning moon, and "Ghanta," meaning bell. She is distinguished by a crescent moon on her forehead resembling the shape of a bell, symbolising her divine identity.

According to Hindu tradition, Maa Chandraghanta is the married form of Goddess Parvati. She is depicted riding a tiger or lion, possessing ten arms that carry various weapons and sacred objects. Despite her warrior appearance, her expression radiates serenity, compassion and spiritual strength.

Devotees believe that worshipping Maa Chandraghanta removes fear, negative energies and obstacles while bringing courage, confidence and inner peace. She is also associated with the Manipura Chakra, which represents personal strength, determination and self-confidence.

On the third day of Navratri, devotees offer prayers, flowers, incense and traditional offerings to seek her blessings. The colour grey is traditionally associated with the third day in many Navratri observance calendars, representing balance, resilience and strength.

Maa Chandraghanta's worship highlights the importance of balancing bravery with compassion. Her divine form inspires devotees to face adversity with determination while maintaining kindness, patience and spiritual harmony.

As Navratri celebrations continue, the worship of Maa Chandraghanta serves as a reminder that true strength lies not only in defeating external challenges but also in overcoming fear, anger and negativity within oneself.
