New Year Price Shock: Commercial LPG Cylinders Jump ₹111, Business Costs Surge Across Cities

New Delhi, 1 Jan : As the new year began, commercial LPG users across India received a price shock as oil marketing companies increased the cost of 19-kg LPG cylinders by ₹111 from January 1. The hike directly impacts hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments that rely heavily on cooking gas for daily operations.

In the national capital Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen to around ₹1,691.50 from the earlier ₹1,580.50. Mumbai has witnessed an increase to about ₹1,642.50, up from ₹1,531.50. In Kolkata, the revised price now stands at nearly ₹1,795.00, while Chennai has seen the highest rate among major cities at approximately ₹1,849.50 per cylinder.

While commercial users face higher expenses, domestic consumers have been spared for now. The price of the 14.2-kg household LPG cylinder has remained unchanged in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow, providing some relief to households amid rising living costs.

Experts say the increase in commercial LPG prices is linked to global energy trends and higher input costs. They warn that the hike could raise operating expenses for small businesses and eateries, which may eventually lead to higher food and service prices for consumers, adding to inflationary pressure in the coming months.
