NTA Terminates 47 Officials Amid NEET Paper Leak Row; Criminal Action, Major Reforms Planned
New Delhi, July 25: In a significant action amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET-UG paper leak, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has terminated the services of 47 officials as the Central Government moves to strengthen accountability within the country's examination system.
According to sources, legal and criminal proceedings will also be initiated against some of the dismissed officials for their alleged involvement in the paper leak scandal. The action comes as authorities intensify efforts to address irregularities and restore public confidence in the examination process.
The development coincides with continued protests at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators have been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the handling of the NEET paper leak issue.
Sources further indicated that the NTA is likely to undergo a comprehensive restructuring as part of a broader reform agenda. The proposed changes are expected to be implemented based on the recommendations of an expert committee, with the aim of creating a more secure, transparent, and leak-proof examination system.
The Centre has already signalled its intent to take stringent action against those responsible for examination malpractices. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced that fast-track courts would be established to ensure swift punishment for those involved in paper leak cases.
In a video message, the Prime Minister acknowledged that paper leaks are a serious issue affecting lakhs of students and their families. He also stated that the government is preparing a stringent new law to deal with those responsible for compromising the integrity of public examinations.
