Punjab Police Officer Suspended After CCTV Allegedly Shows Him Planting Drugs at Priest's Home

Khanna, Punjab, November 02: A Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been suspended after hidden-camera footage allegedly showed him planting heroin beneath a mattress at the residence of religious leader Mahant Kashmir Giri in Khanna, Ludhiana district. The footage reportedly shows ASI Sukhdev Singh entering the room in plain clothes and placing a packet under the mattress before other police personnel arrived for a raid.

Police had earlier claimed to have recovered approximately 30 grams of heroin from the same location and arrested Mahant Kashmir Giri. The raid followed the arrest of his driver, Gurjant Singh, who was allegedly found carrying 7.5 grams of heroin. Following the emergence of the video, Khanna SSP Dr Darpan Ahluwalia suspended the ASI, while Giri was released from the case.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by an SP-rank officer, has been formed to examine the footage and investigate the alleged misconduct. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and the BJP criticised the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government over the incident, raising concerns about police accountability and misuse of authority.
