Sikkim Governor Engages with Top Leaders in Delhi, Highlights State’s Development and Security Priorities
Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur held a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi on Friday, including a key discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to address major developmental and strategic concerns of the state. The meetings took place against the backdrop of Sikkim’s 50th statehood anniversary celebrations.
Governor Mathur met PM Modi at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, where they exchanged views on the progress and future roadmap for the northeastern hill state. The Governor briefed the Prime Minister on key issues related to infrastructure, education, tourism, and overall socio-economic development in Sikkim.
This meeting followed PM Modi’s earlier virtual address to the people of Sikkim on May 29 during the ‘Sikkim\@50’ celebrations. Though the Prime Minister was scheduled to attend the golden jubilee event in person, bad weather prevented his helicopter from departing Bagdogra in West Bengal. Nonetheless, he addressed a packed Paljor Stadium via videoconference, expressing his admiration for Sikkim’s progress and promising an in-person visit in the near future.
During his speech, PM Modi praised the state’s harmonious growth model, describing it as a place "where progress meets purpose, and nature nurtures growth." He also congratulated the citizens on achieving the significant milestone of 50 years of statehood.
In addition to the meeting with the Prime Minister, Governor Mathur also met with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The two discussed various development initiatives currently underway in Sikkim and reviewed collaborative efforts for the welfare of its people.
Continuing his engagements, the Governor met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss regional security and the state’s defence readiness. He provided updates on various state-led projects and touched upon the recent natural disaster in Sikkim’s Mangan district, where army personnel tragically lost their lives during rescue and relief efforts.
Governor Mathur’s meetings in the national capital underscore Sikkim’s commitment to advancing development while maintaining strategic cooperation with the central government. His interactions aim to ensure robust support for the hill state’s ongoing initiatives and address critical challenges, particularly in infrastructure and disaster response.
