Gangtok, Dec 9: The Sikkim University Non-Teaching Staff Association (SUNTSA) expresses deep concern over the appointment of Dr. Braja Bandhu Mishra as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Vice-Chancellor. His selection has caused unease among non-teaching staff, particularly in light of his alleged recent involvement in serious financial and administrative controversies at Tezpur University.
Dr. Mishra was at the centre of sustained protests and public allegations of financial irregularities at his previous institution. News reports and statements from student and staff bodies there have highlighted issues that remain unresolved. In such a situation, his entry into a sensitive administrative role at Sikkim University has raised understandable questions among employees.
“As the backbone of the university’s administration, we cannot ignore matters that affect institutional credibility,” a SUNTSA spokesperson said. “When multiple stakeholders, media outlets, and other university associations have raised concerns, it is only fair that these issues be acknowledged and verified with due seriousness.”
He further added, “Sikkim University has one of the most dedicated and hardworking staff and faculty appointed through fair and open competition and such allegations can be demoralizing and raises concern over integrity of the university fraternity.”
SUNTSA emphasizes that Sikkim University has always stood for ethical governance, transparency, and responsible administration.
