Two Australian Cricketer Harassed in Indore, Accused Aqueel Khan Arrested Within Hours
Bhopal, Oct 25 : In a shocking incident from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, an Australian woman cricketer was allegedly sexually harassed by a 30-year-old man on Thursday night while she was in the city for the ongoing Women’s World Cup.
According to police, the accused — identified as Aqueel Khan, a resident of Azad Nagar — was arrested on Friday evening following a swift investigation. The complaint was lodged by Danny Simmons, the team’s security officer, at the MIG Road Police Station.
The cricketer, along with a teammate, was returning to Hotel Radisson Blu from a nearby café when Khan, wearing a white shirt and black cap, started following them on his motorcycle. He allegedly touched the player inappropriately before fleeing the scene.
Reacting promptly, one of the players alerted Simmons via message and shared her live location. The security team, in coordination with Indian authorities, ensured the players’ safe return to their hotel.
A special police team involving officers from five stations analyzed CCTV footage to identify and track down the accused, who was found to have a criminal background. An FIR has been registered under sections 74 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Authorities have assured strict action and heightened security ahead of the Women’s World Cup match at Indore’s Holkar Stadium scheduled for Saturday.
