West Bengal Govt to End ₹10,000 Mobile Assistance for Students

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday announced that the state government will discontinue the one-time ₹10,000 financial assistance given to Class 11 and 12 students for purchasing mobile phones.

The assistance was provided under the ‘Taruner Swapno’ scheme, launched by the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in 2022 to help students purchase smartphones, tablets and computers for educational purposes.

Adhikari said the BJP-led state government is instead prepared to allocate more funds towards modern educational infrastructure and facilities to support students’ learning.
