🚨 Bista Flags Risk of Document Tampering in Darjeeling Hills Municipalities
Darjeeling, May 5: Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP Raju Bista has raised serious concerns over the safety of official records in the hill municipalities of Kalimpong, Kurseong and Mirik, urging immediate intervention from the state administration.
In a letter addressed to West Bengal Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala, Bista called for urgent steps to secure important municipal documents. He stated that he has been receiving multiple complaints from residents and local organisations who fear that sensitive records, allegedly linked to corruption, could be tampered with or destroyed.
The MP pointed out that elections to these municipalities have not been conducted since 2022, and administrative control has been in the hands of appointed caretakers. He alleged that these appointments were made by the ruling All India Trinamool Congress and claimed that the caretakers have faced accusations of financial irregularities and misuse of public resources.
Bista has urged the Chief Secretary to direct municipal executive officers to ensure that all documents are securely preserved and not removed from official premises under any circumstances.
He further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, efforts would continue to ensure transparency and accountability in governance, adding that those found guilty of misusing public funds would face legal action.
