Delhi Police Accused of Brutality During Parliament March ; High Court Seeks Response
The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Central Government and the Delhi Police after serious allegations of police excesses during the recent Parliament march protests.
During the hearing, the petitioners alleged that police personnel used excessive force against demonstrators, including lathis fitted with nails and electric batons. They also accused some officers of molesting women protesters and carrying out a brutal crackdown during the protest.
The petition further claimed that several police personnel were deployed in plain clothes without displaying identification badges, raising concerns over accountability and transparency during the operation.
Seeking judicial intervention, the petitioners urged the High Court to order an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the allegations, arguing that an impartial investigation is necessary to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
Taking note of the submissions, the Delhi High Court issued notices to the Centre and the Delhi Police, directing them to file their responses. The matter will be heard further after the authorities submit their replies.
The allegations are currently before the court and remain unverified at this stage. The Delhi Police and the Central Government are yet to present their responses.
