Jantar Mantar Loses Official Protest Status; Delhi Names Three Alternative Venues

New Delhi, October 12: Jantar Mantar is no longer a designated protest site after Delhi Police revoked its status and named Ramlila Maidan, Burari Maidan and CBD Ground in East Delhi as alternative venues for demonstrations and sit-ins.

The decision follows recommendations from a committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Detailed, revised standard operating procedures for protests at the three venues will be issued separately.

The order partially amends Delhi Police’s April 28, 2022 standing order and comes amid recent demonstrations at Jantar Mantar over examination paper leaks and alleged electoral irregularities.
