PM Modi Slashes Convoy Size by 50%, Pushes EV Adoption Amid Fuel-Saving Drive
New Delhi, May 13 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly ordered a 50 percent reduction in the size of his official convoy as part of a wider austerity and fuel conservation initiative amid rising global economic and energy concerns.
According to reports, the Prime Minister has also instructed the Special Protection Group (SPG) to increase the use of electric vehicles in his convoy without making fresh vehicle purchases. The move is aimed at promoting responsible fuel consumption while maintaining mandatory security protocols.
The decision comes at a time when India is closely monitoring the impact of the ongoing West Asia crisis and rising crude oil prices. PM Modi has recently urged citizens to adopt more economical and sustainable lifestyle choices, including reducing unnecessary travel and conserving foreign exchange reserves.
Reports suggest that several BJP-ruled states have also started implementing similar austerity measures, with ministers and senior officials reducing the number of vehicles used in official convoys.
The latest move is being viewed as an attempt by the Centre to lead by example in promoting fuel efficiency, sustainability, and administrative discipline during a period of global uncertainty.
