Power Bank Fire Forces IndiGo Flight to Make Emergency Landing in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, October 11: An IndiGo flight travelling from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad on Sunday after a passenger's power bank reportedly caught fire inside an overhead luggage compartment, triggering panic among passengers.
Flight 6E 6115 made a safe emergency landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after the cabin crew responded promptly and brought the situation under control.
Videos circulating on social media showed passengers attempting to extinguish flames inside the aircraft. IndiGo confirmed that smoke was detected from a passenger's electronic device but did not officially identify it as a power bank.
No injuries were reported. The airline arranged an alternative aircraft for passengers to continue their journey to Chennai and provided refreshments during the disruption.
The incident has renewed concerns over lithium-ion battery safety aboard commercial aircraft.
