RG Kar Case Takes New Turn as Victim’s Parents Seek Arrest of Former MLA
Kolkata, May 14 : The parents of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim have gone to a Sealdah court. They are asking for the arrest and questioning of former Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh and two others. They allege these individuals tried to destroy evidence and hurriedly cremated their daughter’s body.
In their petition to the court, the victim’s family accused the three people of blocking efforts for a second post-mortem and conducting the cremation without giving the necessary documents to the family. This emotional appeal has once again brought the high-profile RG Kar case into the public eye.
During the hearing, the family’s lawyer claimed the accused became active right after the incident. He said the victim’s body was taken over before proper procedures were followed. The family has asked the court to tell investigators to arrest and question those involved.
The CBI informed the court that the decision on arrests lies with the investigating agency. They requested more time to provide a detailed response. The case will be reviewed again on June 5.
The victim’s mother, who recently entered politics and won the Panihati Assembly seat, expressed outside the courtroom that obtaining justice for her daughter is her top priority. She missed her scheduled oath-taking ceremony to attend the hearing, stating that her daughter’s memory will always be central to her life.
The RG Kar case triggered national outrage in 2024 after the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor inside the hospital. It continues to fuel protests, political debate, and calls for accountability across West Bengal.
