Vaishno Devi Yatra Suspended as Heavy Rain Triggers Safety Concerns in Jammu & Kashmir
The Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra in Jammu & Kashmir's Reasi district has been temporarily suspended until further notice due to adverse weather conditions and the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast of heavy rainfall and possible landslides between July 19 and July 23.
Authorities took the precautionary step to ensure the safety of thousands of pilgrims as continuous rainfall has made the pilgrimage route hazardous. Poor visibility, slippery paths, and the risk of landslides have raised serious concerns for both devotees and officials.
Pilgrims at the shrine expressed disappointment over the suspension but acknowledged that the decision was necessary. Many said that persistent rain, frequent power outages, and difficult weather conditions had made the journey extremely challenging.
